Texas Medicaid and Weight Loss Surgery?
I am on SSI and receive Medicaid. I am needing to have weight loss surgery and the only insurance I have is Medicaid. Does anyone know if there are doctors in the Dallas/fort worth or even east texas area that will accept Medicaid for the gastric bypass surgery? Or are there doctors who donate the services for free on occasion?

In order to get a special procedure such as gastric bypass, your primary care provider has to refer you to a specialist. If you don’t have a primary care provider, you need to call the client helpline at 1-888-302-6688 and get one. Medicaid may provide you with transportation if the specialist they refer you to is in a different city then which you live. Best of luck to you!

Well, I don’t know of any that donate for free – they couldn’t pay their expenses that way.
You’re going to have to call Medicaid to see if there are any providers who take Medicaid in your area.

You will have to make sure Medicaid will cover this procedure for you, it is not an automatic approval.
